Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships
Support world-class doctoral students who demonstrate a high standard of scholarly achievement and exemplary leadership. Eligible applicants must first submit a Preliminary Assessment Form (PAF)

The 2023-2024 CSM Harmonized Awards – Graduate Award Competition (GAC) is currently accepting applications. The Cumming School of Medicine -Graduate Science Education GAC application submission deadline is 11:59 PM Monday, January 15th, 2024. This deadline includes reference letters.  

The deadline to submit the CSM Harmonized Award form is January 15th, 2024.

Description:

Through a collaborative cost-sharing initiative, the CSM’s Graduate Science Education Office is aiming to recruit and fund graduate students. The CSM and the individual graduate supervisor will cost share a $30,000/year stipend for four years of a PhD program or two years for an MSc program. Funds will be renewed on an annual basis pending demonstration of sufficient progress and compliance with program requirements.

Eligibility: This competition is open to full-time MSc or PhD students enrolled in a CSM Graduate Program. Students must be registered in their first year or in the first semester of their second year at time of the award start date.

Students must submit a Graduate Award Competition (GAC) application and CSM Harmonized Award form by the deadlines listed above to apply.

Description:

Endowed by an anonymous donor, the Achievers in Medicine Doctoral Scholarship provides a stipend of $30,000/year for four years to Cumming School of Medicine Graduate Students in their first year of a doctoral degree.

Eligibility: This competition is open to students registered full-time in the first year of a doctoral degree program in the Cumming School of Medicine.  Students must be registered in their first year or in the first semester of their second year at the time of the award start date.

Applicants must complete a statement of eligibility describing how they fit the eligibility criteria, and submit a Graduate Award Competition (GAC) application and CSM Harmonized Award form by the deadlines listed above to apply.

Description: 

Eleanor Mackie earned her doctorate in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases from the University of Calgary in 1986, and was a constant supporter of research into diseases affecting women. This scholarship was endowed by her estate and is named in her honor. This award is granted to those pursuing doctoral research in immunology or microbiology and infectious diseases dealing with diseases pertaining to women and is valued at $28,000 for 1-year.

Eligibility: Open to students registered full-time in a doctoral program in the Cumming School of Medicine. Candidates must include a one-page research proposal explaining how their research will advance knowledge of diseases affecting women’s health. Students holding a major graduate scholarship from Alberta Innovates - Health Solutions, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada or any other funding agency are not eligible. A student holding this award who subsequently receives one of the above awards must accept the funding agency award and inform the Associate Dean Graduate Sciences Education, and the Graduate Scholarship Office, of his/her external offer.

Description:

William H. Davies Medical Research Scholarships are open to students registered full-time in a graduate program in the Cumming School of Medicine. Awards valued at $3,000 to $11,000 (1-year term), depending upon the candidate's qualifications, experience, and graduate program

Eligibility: 

  • Open to students registered full-time in a graduate program in the Cumming School of Medicine. 
  • Students cannot hold more than $3,000 in award funding (includes monetary awards, scholarship, studentships, etc) in current academic year.
  • Students must have GPA equal to or higher than 3.3 (B+) over the graduate courses taken to date.
  • Students must submit a Graduate Award Competition (GAC) application and CSM Harmonized Award form by the deadlines listed above to apply.
