Gaming Systems and Rehabilitation

The Dukelow Lab took a part in the EVREST Study with Dr. Gustavo Saposnik of Toronto's St. Michael's Hospital, which examined how the Nintendo Wii could be used as an rehabilitation tool to help improve cognitive and motor function after a stroke. The study included patients who got to use the Nintendo Wii as a form of rehabilitation and compared it to the patients that underwent traditional recreation activities. The study's aim was to demonstrate how virtual reality exercises have great potential at improving outcomes for stroke survivors, and could be a very efficient and innovative form of rehabilitation.
