
Allocation Committee
The Allocation of Residency Position committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Associate Dean, PGME on matters relating to the allocation of CaRMS matched positions as well as re-entry positions. Members review overall criteria and allocate training positions, in the interest of the broader CSM mandate, considering physician resource requirements in Alberta. Membership is determined by program representation and includes Program Directors, Resident representative, AHS representative and PGME staff.

Appeals Committee
The Appeals Committee is appointed by the Associate Dean and consists of members of faculty who have knowledge of residency training. The committee is made up of co-chairs, faculty and residents. A 3-person committee is assembled, on a rotating basis, for the purpose of hearing and deciding an appeal.

Fellowship Committee
The PGME fellowship committee is comprised of faculties from various clinical departments, 2 fellow representatives and PGME managers; the committee oversees the administrative aspects of fellowship programs.

Learner Academic Support and Assessment
This committee is responsible for supporting Programs and Program Directors with residents in academic difficulty. The goal is to provide the best strategies for success in developing goal-specific, and achievable learning, remediation and probation plans that serve the purpose of enhancing learning and narrowing the gap for learners who struggle in any of the CanMEDS and CanMEDS FM roles. In addition, the committee will be responsible for development and regular review of policies and procedures related to resident learners in difficulty as well as developing evidence-based approaches in the area of remediation in medical education.

Patient Safety Council
The Patient Safety Council undertakes regular review of Patient Learning Summaries received from AHS, and identifies opportunities for feedback to programs and learners, provides guidance to PGME and programs around the organization of educational programs, and guides the implementation of academic curricula and clinical service delivery by postgraduate learners. The Council is also responsible for developing a process to support trainees involved in patient complaints or patient safety events, and is committed to the development of a Just Culture for patient safety reporting.

PGME Committee
The Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Committee provides effective governance for the overall development and review of all aspects of residency education under the governance of the CSM at the University of Calgary. The Committee reports to and is a standing Committee of the Faculty Council of the CSM. This committee has various responsibility as included in the attached ToR. Membership is determined by current program directors (or their delegates), residents, medical students, PGME staff and other various stakeholders.

Policy Committee
The Policy Committee is advisory to the PGME Committee. It provides regular review and revision of all policies which govern postgraduate training. The Committee is responsible for ensuring documents are current, comprehensive and consistent with various stakeholders including the Royal College, CPSA, PARA and UCalgary. Members of the Policy Committee are current/former Program Directors, Residents and stakeholders from AHS and PGME.

Strategic Advisory Council
The Strategic Advisory Committee is responsible for developing a strategic vision for Postgraduate Medical Education at CSM. The committee is advisory to the PGME Committee, which provides governance for all aspects of residency education at the University of Calgary. This committee is made up of members appointed by the Associate Dean and includes former and current program directors, residents and fellows, PGME Leadership and PGME staff.
Awards Subcommittee Awards Subcommittee
This subcommittee is responsible for recognizing and promoting excellence in postgraduate medical education by overseeing the nomination and selection process for various PGME awards. The goal is to celebrate outstanding contributions by residents, faculty, and program staff that advance the educational mission of the institution. The committee ensures a fair, transparent, and inclusive awards process by developing and regularly reviewing selection criteria, timelines, and procedures
QI and Accreditation Committee
The QI and Accreditation Committee oversees the quality improvement and accreditation processes for all PGME programs, ensuring alignment with national standards and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The Committee is chaired by Dr. Sarah Glaze and reports to the PGME Committee, Strategic Advisory Committee and the Associate Dean.
