Applying for Residency Training

Canadian citizens and permanent residents graduating from Canadian medical schools must apply through the R1 match of the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS)

Upon successfully matching to a University of Calgary residency program and prior to starting residency training, if you required accommodation during medical school or if you believe you will need accommodation in residency it is necessary to notify the PGME Dean as soon as possible.  Due to the nature of residency, it may take time to ensure arrangements for accommodation are in place.

CaRMS also has an R4 match for Internal Medicine and  Pediatrics residents who are looking to enter subspecialty training.

Canadian citizens studying in medical schools outside Canada are advised that only those enrolled in LCME-accredited schools may apply through the CaRMS Match. Those enrolled in schools not accredited by LCME must apply through the AIMG Program. There are no other routes for Canadians to enter residency positions at the University of Calgary.

Canadian Citizens/Permanent Residents of Canada

  • Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
