Admissions Statistics & Cohort Profiles

We provide annual admissions statistics to illustrate the holistic and competitive nature of our admissions process. These data are for informational purposes only and are not minimum competitive thresholds.

Context for Interpreting Admissions Cycle Summary Data

Before reviewing the admissions statistics, applicants are encouraged to read the following information, which outlines what data are presented, how summary data are organized, what they represent, and how to interpret them within our holistic admissions process.

We present statistics separately for each admissions cycle, as competitiveness and applicant pools can vary from year to year. Within each cycle, data are also stratified by stage of the admissions process to reflect how applicant metrics evolve as the pool becomes more competitive.

These stages include:

  • All applicants: Everyone who submitted a complete application and passed the initial screening criteria.
  • Interviewed applicants: Only those who progressed to the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) (i.e., received and accepted an interview offer and completed the MMI).
  • Admitted cohort: Applicants who accepted an offer of admission (including those admitted from the waitlist) and began the MPAS program in that admissions cycle.

Because each stage reflects a progressively smaller and more competitive subset of applicants, the ranges for metrics such as GPA and Casper typically narrow as individuals move through the process.

Applicants should note that similar metrics, such as GPA or Casper performance, may not result in the same admissions outcome in a future cycle. Outcomes vary year to year because the MPAS program uses a holistic review process and considers the full context of each application. Metrics are only one component of the weighted formulas used across different stages of selection.

No. The summary statistics presented on this page are for informational purposes only. They should not be interpreted as minimum competitive thresholds or as predictions of future admissions outcomes. Because admissions decisions are holistic and depend on the overall strength of the applicant pool, similar metrics may lead to different outcomes in different cycles.

Several components of the MPAS admissions process are not included in the summary statistics on this page, but they are important factors in our decision-making. These include:

  • File review scores, which contribute substantially to our program's initial weighted formula used to determine interview offers.
  • MMI scores, which are central to the weighted formula used to rank applicants for admission after the interview.

These data are not published because they reflect internal evaluation processes, contain sensitive information, and may involve small numbers that increase the risk of misinterpretation. Admissions decisions are based on the totality of an applicant’s file, not on any single score or metric.

The summary statistics on this page are intended to help applicants understand the general range of academic metrics observed across recent admissions cycles. You can use this information to situate your own metrics within the broader applicant pool, but importantly, not to predict outcomes. Because admissions decisions are holistic and depend on weighted formulas that include file review and MMI scores, similar metrics may lead to different outcomes in different cycles. The data should therefore be used for general context and planning, not as indicators of competitiveness or cutoffs.

The MPAS program is highly competitive, with far more applicants than available seats. The following provides a summary of application volumes and progression through each stage of the admissions process for the 2024 and 2025 cycles.

2024 Admissions Cycle

  • 165 applications received
  • 113 applications underwent full file review
  • 80 applicants interviewed

2025 Admissions Cycle

  • 251 applications received
  • 189 applications underwent full file review
  • 80 applicants interviewed

Two stacked bar charts showing the proportions of in-province and out-of-province applicants at the all-applicant, interviewed, and cohort stages for the 2024 and 2025 admissions cycles.

Geographic Representation Across Admissions Stages & Cycles

Proportion of in-province and out-of-province applicants at each stage of the admissions process. Applicants from both within and outside Alberta progress through all stages each cycle. Slightly higher in-province representation in the admitted cohort reflects, in part, that some out-of-province applicants who receive offers may choose to attend programs closer to home.

Grade Point Average

To be eligible for admission, applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA (cGPA) of 3.20 on the University of Calgary four-point scale, calculated over the most recent 60 units completed.

cGPA medians and ranges by admissions stage and cycle
Admissions CycleAll applicants*InterviewedCohort
20243.73 (3.2-4.0)3.81 (3.2-4.0)3.79 (3.4-4.0)
20253.77 (3.0-4.0)3.88 (3.3-4.0)3.88 (3.6-4.0)

While our admissions decisions are based on each applicant’s average cGPA, the following table presents medians and ranges to reduce the risk of interpreting summary statistics as competitive thresholds. Medians are less affected by small cohort sizes and outliers, and therefore offer a clearer representation of the central tendency of applicant metrics than means.

Anatomy & Physiology

Applicants must earn a minimum grade of B (3.00/4.00) in both human anatomy and human physiology prerequisite courses to be eligible for admissions.

Medians and ranges of Anatomy & Physiology course grades by admissions stage and cycle
Admissions CycleAll applicants*InterviewedCohort
20243.70 (3.0-4.0)3.78 (3.0-4.0)3.77 (3.0-4.0)
20253.80 (3.0-4.0)3.95 (3.0-4.0)3.95 (3.0-4.0)

While admissions decisions consider applicant's actual course grades in Anatomy & Physiology, the table presents medians and ranges to reduce the risk of interpreting summary statistics as competitive thresholds.

Casper

Casper medians and ranges by admissions stage and cycle
Admissions CycleAll applicants*InterviewedCohort
20240.59 (0.1-1.0)0.74 (0.1-1.0)0.89 (0.2-1.0)
20250.55 (0.0-1.0)0.78 (0.2-1.0)0.91 (0.3-1.0)

While applicants only receive their Casper quartile, our program receives percentile scores in our admissions process. Percentiles reported show how Casper performance varies across admissions stages with greater detail than quartiles.
