BHSc'20 (Health & Society) alumna, Whitney Ereyi-Osas, now in her first year of medical school at the University of Calgary, has been involved with the Refugee and Immigrant Student Empowerment (RISE) since her undergraduate days. RISE is led by led Dr. Turin Chowdhury, a member of the O’Brien Institute for Public Health at the Cumming School of Medicine.

Alumni and students develop tool to track Covid-19 spread

In early April, Rahul Arora, BHSc’19 and Tingting Yan, BHSc’19 wanted to find a way to contribute meaningfully to the pandemic response. The former classmates quickly realized that they could organize the University of Calgary alumni, epidemiologists, and programmers in their networks, building a tool that could help with Canada’s Covid-19 strategy.

    Asha Hollis, a BHSc graduate class of 2017, travelled to Sri Lanka and India, where she spoke at an international medical congress and won an award for her presentation.

    The University of Calgary became the second post-secondary institution in Canada to adopt Global Access to Medicines Principles as a result of Asha's efforts.
