Mentor inspired future doctor to embrace advocacy and make a difference
Dr. Asha Hollis, BHSc'17, has taken every opportunity to make a difference. Growing up in Calgary, Dr. Hollis pursued her academic journey at the University of Calgary, completing her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences, followed by a joint MD and MSc through the Leaders in Medicine program at the Cumming School of Medicine.

BHSc alumna gains new skills

A unique program at the University of Calgary offers select students the opportunity to fuse their scientific knowledge and passion for business. Chidinma, a BHSc'21 alumna, completed her Master of Biomedical Technology degree in 2022 and now works full-time with Deep Surface AI, which develops 3D facial morphing tools used in planning facial surgery procedures.
Bioinformatics student recipient of the Janssen Award

Second year bioinformatics student, Ronaar Qureshi — one of two of the 2022-23 recipients of the Janssen Award for Equity and Inclusion in Medicine at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine (CSM). These awards, made possible by a $325,000 endowed philanthropic gift from Janssen Canada, are meant to help train and grow future health leaders in a more equitable health ecosystem.

Three BHSc students among the 185 student-athletes that were honoured at the annual Academic All-Canadian Breakfast on Tuesday, December 6. Stephen Moore (Men's Swimming), River Sanoy (Men's Track & Field/Cross Country) and Emily Laycock (Women's Track & Field/Cross Country) were named Academic All-Canadian for maintaining an 80 percent average (or equivalent) on a full-time course load while consuming U SPORTS eligibility.
