Measuring Gastric Electrical Activity in Adults
Enrolling volunteers now
In this study, we are inviting Calgary area residents who are living with stomach problems such as gastroparesis, functional dyspepsia or chronic vomiting syndrome to participate in a study at the Foothills Medical Campus to test out a new, non-invasive device to measure the electrical nerve activity of the stomach. The study appointment will take about 5 hours and is scheduled on a weekday.
We will attach the new device onto the skin of your abdomen with adhesive similar to what is used in ECGs. You will wear this in the research clinic while we collect baseline measures when your stomach is empty and after you eat a small meal of a granola type bar and nutrient drink. The study visit may take up to 5 hours. You will be able to sit quietly and read or study during the research appointment.
You may be eligible to participate if
- are 18 years old or older
- have a physician confirmed diagnosis of gastroparesis, functional dyspepsia, chronic vomiting syndrome or similar
- reside in the Calgary area
- are able to attend a 5 hour research appointment at the University of Calgary Foothills Campus
