Family Medicine / Rural Medicine Interest Group
The Family Medicine / Rural Medicine Interest Group aims to promote family and rural medicine as an attractive career option to University of Calgary undergraduate medical students. We aim to highlight the diversity and scope of practice that is available in family medicine and rural practice. Membership is free and open to any medical student at the University of Calgary and may be obtained by approaching a FMIG / RMIG representative.
Benefits of Membership
Gain leadership and organizational skills by helping us plan and organize events! Members also have access to any FMIG / RMIG associated events and may receive benefits such as the ability to pre-register for events prior to non-members.
Rural Skills Weekend
Visit rural towns in Alberta and learn alongside allied healthcare professionals in this fun weekend event! Participants will have the opportunity to practice medical skills, tour local towns, and learn about rural medicine.
Resident Teaching Night
Join us for a fun and informative teaching night led by family medicine residents and physicians. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about high-yield cases and common diagnoses using a family medicine approach.
Diversity in Family Medicine Night
External Events
Hear from Family physicians who personalized their career and lifestyle by taking a third year of residency (R3) in fields such as Indigenous Health, Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Geriatrics, Obstetrics, Sports Medicine, or Surgery.

Family Medicine Scholarships
The scholarship from the iCollege of Family Physicians of Canada is open to medical students in their second-last year of study.
