Department of Family Medicine

The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) includes physician services, academic family medicine, and education, clinical services, and research programs. It oversees six clinical sections responsible for delivering family medicine-related services in Calgary. DFM is integrated within Alberta Health Services and the University of Calgary.

The Society of Rural Physicians of Canada (SRPC) is the national voice for Canadian rural physicians. SRPC undertakes various functions, including supporting rural doctors and communities in crisis, promoting and delivering continuing rural medical education, and more.

College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)

The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) is the regulatory body for physicians in Alberta. Similar to how a provincial registry ensures that drivers are safe on the road, the CPSA issues practice permits to physicians, ensuring they are qualified to deliver the best possible care to their patients.

The ACFP is a professional voluntary organization representing over 5,600 family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students in Alberta. As the provincial chapter of the CFPC, the ACFP supports the certification of its members by providing continuing professional development (CPD) and upholding established standards for CPD delivery.

The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) is a professional organization representing over 45,000 members nationwide. It sets the standards for and accredits postgraduate family medicine training at Canada's 17 medical schools. The CFPC also reviews and certifies continuing professional development programs and materials, helping family physicians meet certification and licensing requirements.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The Office of Continuing Medical Education offers a wide range of evidence-based learning opportunities for physicians, other healthcare professionals, and the public in various formats, including in-person, online, and blended learning. The CME also provides support with accreditation services, course and event planning and management, registration, venue arrangements, advertising and marketing, course materials, and evaluation summaries.
