Our Focus:

The Department of Community Health Sciences has a bold calling - advancing health with communities, aligning with the University of Calgary’s mission of fully engaging the communities we both serve and lead. We believe this can be achieved through three interconnected focus areas: education, research and service. We believe that community health is more than a field of study, an area of research or an initiative; it is a belief, a calling, and a purpose that holds the potential to change the world.

The information on this website provides insight into the activities and programs of our department. More importantly, it highlights what is possible when stellar students, educators and researchers come together in an innovative and engaging community health environment.

How We Make a Difference

Our efforts to make a difference are guided by three strategic focus areas: reimaging education, pursuing meaningful research and creating with communities. With an established reputation for excellence in teaching, we are co-developing educational experiences with students, providing the knowledge and networks they need to change the world – and themselves.

Our faculty pursue meaningful, stakeholder-engaged research and collaborate broadly on issues shaping societies. We work closely with other departments, research institutes and community partners to generate new knowledge and appropriate responses to societal changes.

Our service efforts translate this knowledge into sustainable and scalable actions through authentic community engagement. The impact of our efforts can be felt across improvements to public health policy and programs at local, national and international levels.
