Local Communities

Building health equity in our local communities

Local communities play an important role in shaping opportunities for health and well-being. That is why our office is committed to working with community members to reduce health disparities among populations in marginalized settings in Calgary and southern Alberta. We focus on building bridges with local community groups that promote alignment, partnership and collaboration on projects that catalyze our combined experiences, expertise and knowledge to address identified health priorities.

Building respectful relationships between local communities and Cumming School of Medicine faculty and students is core to our mission. We accomplish this by facilitating learning experiences, community partnerships, research programs and the co-design of initiatives with local stakeholders at all levels.

Specifically, our local community engagement efforts focus on increasing the Cumming School of Medicine’s presence as an active, collaborative, and supportive partner within the community, and mobilizing faculty, staff and students to support local community projects. We work with our neighbours - community groups, governments, and institutions to partner on projects that align with our areas of strength in health equity research, education, and service.
