Gender Equity Hackathon
Location: Calgary, AB
Dates: June 27, 2018 and ongoing as products are developed
Project description:
In response to the Department of Medicine Gender Equity Inquiry, a hackathon was held by convening clinicians along with equity-seeking partners, supported by Innovate Calgary + Alberta Innovates.
The Department of Medicine Citizen product emerged from this hackathon which is intended to serve as an online service hub and communication platform for medical professionals and faculty within the Department of Medicine at the University of Calgary. The Web application was conceptualized through a Gender Equity Hackathon and provides a means of accessing career-relevant information (i.e., CVs) intended to promote mentor/mentee relationships absent of potential gender bias, as well as relevant service provider information.
The Web application can be divided into five key function/content areas:
- CV Catalogue: Provides users with access to upload their CV into the Department of Medicine’s Citizen’s database and to search the content of other users’ CVs
- Mentor Match: Provides users with access to search for mentors or mentees
- Second Shift: Provides users with access to search and recommend independent part time employees
- Trusted Vendors: Provides users with access to search and review vendors of products and services
