Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency
Program Information
The goal of the University of Calgary PHPM program is to graduate outstanding Public Health and Preventive Medicine specialist physicians who lead, collaborate, and innovate to maintain and improve the health and well-being of patients and populations.
The program's mission is to provide foundational clinical, academic, and public health learning and training opportunities to develop competence in all areas of PHPM practice, and the flexibility to pursue specialized experiences and skills based on interests and desired career paths.
The Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency provides residents with the diverse skills required to be future leaders in the field. The program includes rotations at numerous sites across Southern Alberta, providing real-world experience under the supervision of distinguished faculty and practicing medical professionals.
There are two University of Calgary Public Health and Preventive Medicine positions each year, both of which include the opportunity for joint certification in Family Medicine.
Careers in PHPM can be quite diverse and the program allows for the flexibility to explore different careers, while also ensuring that core competencies are met. There is elective time embedded and a wide range of elective opportunities locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally to ensure residents can explore different aspects of PHPM.
