Neurocritical Care
Neurocritical care is one of the first links in the chain of survival and recovery for patients with life threatening neurological disorders resulting from trauma, stroke, cardiac arrests, seizures, infections, and other conditions. These disorders do not discriminate and can affect patients of any age, sex, race or geographic location. In Calgary and southern Alberta, patients with life threatening neurological disorders account for 15-20% of all patients admitted to intensive care units.
The Calgary NCC program strives to provide evidence-based, precision-guided, patient and family centered neurocritical care to patients in need with the goal of saving lives, improving patient outcomes, and enhancing the patient and family experience.
