Biography

Dr. Murphy graduated in Medicine from the University of Ottawa in 1973. After medical school, he trained in Family Medicine at the U of C, and practiced for four years in British Columbia. He then returned to the University of British Columbia to complete his training in Internal Medicine, followed by a residency program in Neurology at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio), under the directorship of Drs. Morris Victor and Betty Banker. Following this, he completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at the Cleveland Clinic in 1984, before returning to Calgary. Dr. Murphy recently completed a six-month sabbatical in Australia, where he studied fMRI, and phasic epileptic and sleep-related events.

Dr. Murphy’s clinical interests include epilepsy, sleep medicine, multiple sclerosis and EMG. He is currently the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee for Clinical Neurophysiology for the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Province of Alberta, and is a past president of the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists. Dr. Murphy is also currently Chairperson of CBRET (Canadian Board of Registration of Electroencephalograph Technologists).
