Give 'n' Thanks campaign
Gold star-shaped cards can be purchased with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to our United Way campaign. You can use the cards to write a message of thanks, words of encouragement or let someone know how they make Calgary a better place for all. You can then deliver the golden star anonymously or in-person to the recipient of your choice.

The Cumming School of Medicine is selling the stars for $2 each or three for $5. Please contact Melanie Tibbetts to purchase stars.

For more information on this initiative, visit the Give 'n' Thanks page.

Give

Giving is easy! You can choose to give to the United Way by making an online contribution or by filling out a paper pledge form. You have the choice to direct your donation to one of three investment areas: overcoming poverty, successful kids or strong communities.

Online donation
Donating online is simple and secure. You should have received a personalized online donation URL through email on October 3. This contains a link to EPledge where you can select to donate through payroll deduction, credit card, cash or cheque. Donations made online will automatically be credited to your department.

Paper pledge forms
To ensure your pledge counts towards your department’s participation rate, you must include your UCID number on the form. Completed forms should be directed to Melanie Tibbetts, room 7E23, 7th Floor, TRW.

Participate

All faculty and staff are encouraged to participate either by donating or volunteering. Your participation could earn your department one of two $2,500 student scholarships. As part of our internal department challenge, two scholarships will be awarded – one to the clinical or basic science department that achieves the highest participation rate, and one to the department that has the highest amount of donations.

New for 2016 – Double your impact
Thanks to the generosity of donors, your donation will have an even larger impact.

Cumming School of Medicine donation match
The CSM has been given a gift of $50,000 that will be used to match leader donations.

University of Calgary donation match
Anyone can be a leader. A donation of $1,200-$9,999 makes you a Leadership Donor. Any new leadership donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar.

For donations that meet the new leadership giving criteria, the CSM will match the doubled amount. That means there’s an opportunity to quadruple your contribution!

For more information on leadership giving, visit the leaders page.

Increase your department's participation
Looking to increase your department's participation? Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Casual day
Host a casual day. Sell United Way badges for $5 each, which identify why your team is dressed casually. Encourage your employees to have fun with this by choosing a theme for the day. For example, retro day, pajama day or silly hat day. Contact Melanie Tibbetts for badges.

Team raffle
Ask each member of your team to contribute something special for a raffle prize. For example, baked goods or handmade items. Sell tickets on these items, or provide tickets to those who donate (i.e. employees who donate by October 31 receive three tickets, employees who donate by December 16 receive one ticket).

Let us know what you're doing
We want to hear how your department is getting involved.  Please send your stories, photos or ideas to Melanie Tibbetts
