AHS Announcements & Updates
NEW: Alberta Health Services Biosafety for Research and Clinical Trials Policy
Alberta Health Services is pleased to announce the adoption of a Biosafety for Research and Clinical Trials policy. This policy builds on AHS’ commitment to enable clinical research and offer innovative, cutting-edge treatments to Albertans across our facilities while ensuring the safety of staff, patients, and the public.
How research and clinical trials are reviewed and approved by AHS remains the same. The policy strengthens AHS’ ability to support Principal Investigators using advanced interventions by:
- Complying with the federal Human Pathogens and Toxins Act and Regulations
- Applying a consistent approach to assess and manage biosafety and biosecurity risks
- Enabling trials whose sponsors require established procedures for biosafety review.
If you have any questions about the Biosafety for Research and Clinical Trials policy, please contact your institutional biological safety officer, email AHSBiosafety-Research@albertahealthservices.ca, or refer to our Biosafety Approval FAQs.
