Sponsored Trainees
The University of Calgary accepts both domestic and international residents that are funded by external sponsoring agencies with a current educational contract with the PGME office. Sponsoring agencies wishing to initiate an educational contract can do so by contacting pgmefinance@ucalgary.ca.
Postgraduate educational contracts for residency positions are currently in place between the University of Calgary and the following sponsoring agencies:

All Residency positions offered have an anticipated start date of July 1, unless otherwise agreed upon by the program
and the sponsoring agency. Applications received will be screened by the PGME office for eligibility.
• Only applications submitted for the participating programs listed below will be reviewed
• Only applications submitted by the sponsoring agency will be accepted. Applications submitted by the individual
applicants will not be considered
• Unless exempt, only applicants who have achieved the minimum passing grade of the English language
proficiency requirements outlined by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta will be considered
eligible
• Applicants who have trained outside of Canada must have identity and credentials verified by the Physician
Credential Registry of Canada
• Only eligible applicants will be notified once their application has been forwarded to the program.
• Interviews and offers are at the discretion of the participating program.
Direct entry Residency programs select candidates between July 1 and December 1 of the previous year. For additional
requirements of participating programs, please visit our residency program directory for contact
information. Participating programs for the current intake cycle are listed below:
• Gynecologic Oncology
• Neuroradiology
• Pediatric General Surgery
Residency programs who follow the CaRMS match cycles are subject to national deadlines as approved by the AFMC.
Applications are accepted until July 31. Participating programs and associated national deadlines are listed below:

Only complete, eligible applications will be forwarded to the participating program. A complete application (combined
into one pdf-file) must include the following documents:
• Letter of Financial Support
• Letter of Intent specific to the University of Calgary
• Curriculum Vita
• Full Medical School Transcripts (English translation, only)
• Three (3) letters of recommendation
• Unless exempt, successful results of one of the tests outlined in CPSA’s English Language
Proficiency requirements
• Pass standing results for the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examinations (MCCQE)
Part 1 may be required by some programs
