Certificates and Verifications
The Office of Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) provides official certificates and verification letters to confirm a trainee’s status at the University of Calgary. These documents may be required for licensure, examinations, credentialing, employment, immigration, or other professional purposes. Requests are processed by the PGME Registration team and are issued based on the trainee’s current or completed training record. Residents
The PGME office will provide a certificate confirming the completion of training for each resident upon the Program Director's request, with the Residency Training Committee and the Associate Dean PGME's approval. Only one certificate will be issued by the PGME office for each training period, and duplicate certificates will not be provided.
Certificates will be issued using the full legal name as it appears in the University of Calgary student portal. PGME will not issue certificates to trainees with outstanding charges on their account. Processing time for certificate issue is three to four weeks after program completion.
Replacement certificates will be provided at the trainee's request if the original certificate is lost, destroyed, damaged, or if a name change is needed. For lost or destroyed certificates, the PGME office must receive both the replacement certificate request form and a notarized declaration before issuing a replacement. For damaged certificates or those requiring name changes, the original certificate must be returned to the PGME office along with the completed request form to pgmeverifications@ucalgary.ca before a replacement will be issued. Processing time for replacement certificates is four to six weeks.
PGME does not provide or offer Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths services. Please contact Student Legal Assistance at the University of Calgary for Notary Public services.
Our office is responsible for maintaining training records for all current and former PGME trainees at the University of Calgary. We provide verification services for the following:
- Verifications of residency (CFPC and RCPSC)
- Verifications of clinical fellowship (AFC and non-AFC)
- Verifications of issued certificates
Requests for training verification should be submitted to pgmeverifications@ucalgary.ca. Please note that we do not provide training verifications for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME); these requests should be redirected to Md.verify@ucalgary.ca.
All requests for training verifications must include signed authorization of disclosure by the physician, in compliance with the Access to Information Act and the Protection of Privacy Act. For more information on the collection, use, or disclosure of information, please contact the Access and Privacy Office (APO).
Attestations of Completion may be provided upon request to verify a trainee has successfully completed their program, provided the trainee does not have outstanding fees on their account. It serves as formal proof of competency or attendance while waiting for the certificate of completion to arrive. Please send a request to pgmeverifications@ucalgary.ca.
Proof of Enrollment Letters
Our office can only provide proof of academic enrollment. All requests should be directed to pgmeverifications@ucalgary.ca. Letters will only be issued to trainees who have completed their registration with the University of Calgary.
Proof of enrollment Letters are distributed to residents shortly after July 1 each academic year or at any time throughout the academic year at the trainee’s request.
Proof of Employment Letters
Trainees who are on AHS payroll may download their proof of employment letter through the ePeople portal or contact the Medical Education Office at cal.medicaleducationoffice@albertahealthservices.ca.
Residents who require a Form B to be completed defer Alberta Student Loans must submit a request via their My UCalgary Student Portal to be completed by the Registrar’s office on main campus. For in depth instructions on how to complete a service request, please click here.
Alberta Health Services and the University of Calgary do not reimburse relocation expenses for residency training. Residents who have claimed moving expenses on their taxes must provide their most recent signed Letter of Engagement, as this requirement is specified in the letter.
Residents who have claimed (CMPA, CPSA) membership costs or MCC exam fees on their taxes and require support documentation, may request a letter confirming the professional organization membership requirements for residency training via pgmeverifications@ucalgary.ca.
Clinical Fellows
The Office of Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) provides verification of training letters to confirm a fellow’s training status at the University of Calgary. These documents may be required for purposes such as:
- Licensure and professional registration
- Examinations and credentialing
- Employment applications
All requests are processed by the PGME Fellowship Office and issued based on the fellow’s current or completed training record. If you require a verification of training letter, please email pgmefellowships@ucalgary.ca. The usual processing time for this request is two to three weeks.

Certificates are provided upon the Program Director’s request and require approval from the Fellowship Training Committee and the Associate Dean, PGME.

- Successfully meet all goals and objectives outlined in their approved training framework
- Ensure all evaluations have been submitted
- Have no outstanding fees on their account
