Welcome to Fellowships at the University of Calgary!
We’re excited to have you join us for your fellowship training. Below you’ll find important information about onboarding, registration, and resources to help you prepare for your upcoming academic year.
Fellows accepted into a University of Calgary fellowship program will complete onboarding during the annual registration period. Registration begins in November for the next academic year.
Before registration, please review:
- The Mandatory Onboarding Requirements webpage.
- If you have not had your medical degree verified through physiciansapply, please arrange to have this completed as this can take some time.
- If you are required to provide a successful English Language Proficiency (ELP) Exam, please refer to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) for their requirements. CPSA can be contacted regarding questions related to these requirements.
Your fellowship program may send you a Letter of Intent, provided by the PGME Fellowship Office. A Letter of Intent (LOI) is a formal notice sent to an applicant indicating the program’s intention to offer a training position, subject to required approvals and conditions. It outlines key terms of the proposed appointment and serves as a preliminary offer, not a final contract. If you receive one:
- Sign the letter.
- Email it back to pgmefellowships@ucalgary.ca within two weeks of receipt.
Fellowships follow the Postgraduate Medical Training Program Framework, which outlines goals and objectives for your training.
Once approved by the Director of Fellowships (please note that approval can take up to 4 weeks from when the program provides the framework to PGME):
- You’ll receive the framework and an acknowledgement form sent by the pgmefellowships@ucalgary.ca email.
- If you agree, sign and return the form to pgmefellowships@ucalgary.ca within two weeks of receipt.
After this step, we’ll begin processing your fellowship paperwork within two weeks.
All trainees are considered students at the University of Calgary and are required to register with the University of Calgary’s online system. The myUCalgary portal will allow trainees to view assessed tuition, submit Form B documents for approval, and more. Trainees will receive registration link to the email that was provided in the approved framework.
Instructions on how to complete your initial registration can be found here. For Tuition information visit our tuition page.
After completing online registration, you’ll receive instructions to set up your @ucalgary.ca email address.
Please note: PGME will use this email for all official communication during your fellowship.
