Visiting Residency Electives

Overview

The University of Calgary Department of Emergency Medicine welcomes visiting elective residents who are currently enrolled in a Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine residency training program in Canada. Electives can be 2-4 weeks duration, except blocks 1-3 which are limited to two weeks due to high demand. Site and preceptor preferences will be considered. If you are interested in an elective, please email calgaryerelectives@gmail.com with your preferred dates to check for availability.


Applications are accepted and processed on a continuous basis beginning one year prior to the projected elective start date. Interested candidates are advised to apply as early as possible, as demand for this elective is great.

Important Notes: - The Department of Emergency Medicine only handles elective requests for Calgary’s four adult emergency departments, which are staffed by specialists in emergency medicine. Requests for pediatric emergency medicine electives should be d
