Visiting Residency Electives

The University of Calgary Department of Emergency Medicine welcomes visiting elective residents who are currently enrolled in a Family Medicine residency training program in Canada and who are considering applying to our CCFP-EM training program. Electives can be of two, three, or four weeks duration and all electives start on a Monday and end on a Sunday. For the months of July-September inclusive, the department will only be booking 2 week resident electives due to demand. While elective residents usually work at both the Foothills Medical Centre and the Peter Lougheed Centre, residents can also work at our other two adult emergency departments (at Rockyview General Hospital and South Health Campus) by special request. Applicants should apply in writing to calgaryerelectives@gmail.com

Applications are accepted and processed on a continuous basis beginning one year prior to the projected elective start date. Interested candidates are advised to apply as early as possible, as demand for this elective is great.

Important Notes: - The Department of Emergency Medicine only handles elective requests for Calgary’s four adult emergency departments, which are staffed by specialists in emergency medicine. Requests for pediatric emergency medicine electives should be d
