Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology Residency
Our Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology Subspecialty Residency Training Program began in July 2018.
Applicants can apply through the CaRMS Medicine Subspecialty Match. More information including eligibility criteria can be found here.
This program is based out of the Poison and Drug Information Service (PADIS).
First year:
- Medical Toxicology at PADIS. Includes on call experience at PADIS, leading resident teaching sessions, and monthly outpatient Medical Toxicology Clinic at Holy Cross Ambulatory Care Centre at Rockyview Hospital.
- Clinical Pharmacology. Includes rotations on the Clinical Pharmacology consultation service, case-based teaching, and outpatient clinic experience in an area of interest (e.g. hypertension, anticoagulation, amiodarone, and arrhythmia).
- Laboratory Medicine at Alberta Precision Laboratories – Calgary.
- Pharmacy Services. Includes time spent at Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed Centre, Rockyview Hospital, South Health Campus.
- Hemodialysis at Foothills Medical Centre.
Second year:
- Focused areas of interest as chosen by the resident and program director. Options include Medical Toxicology, Clinical Pharmacology, Public Health-Harm Reduction, acute pain service, pediatric environmental health, addiction medicine and obstetrical internal medicine/medical disorders of pregnancy. Opportunities to do electives in personalized medicine at Western University (London) and in regulatory toxicology at Health Canada (Ottawa) are also available.
- Research. Residents will work closely with CPT Section members to complete a project relevant to the residents’ areas of interest and future career goals. More information about the research foci of the Section of CPT can be found here.
