Interviewers include a panel of Calgary DEM physicians in leadership roles (Department Head, Deputy Department Head and Site Leads), Nursing Leadership, as well as a mix of Calgary DEM physicians across all four major adult hospitals.

The Calgary DEM strives to ensure its physician group is representative of the community it serves. If you feel that your background, training, interests or experiences might be under-represented in Calgary, please share these details with us in your letter of interest and how you may provide growth to our community.

After accepting a job offer, communication will be made with all successful applicants for their preferred hospital site(s): Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed Centre, Rockyview General Hospital and South Health Campus. Applicants will be able to submit first, second and third choice preferences. Split lines shared between multiple sites are also acceptable.

Initial site assignments are balanced between site needs and preferences of the applicants.

After completing the Associate Year, physicians can re-submit their preferred sites, which are then included for consideration of transfer when available.

Yes. 1-year Locum physician opportunities are offered on an annual basis for a July 1st start date. In some cases, earlier start dates may be considered depending on individual circumstances.

CCFP(EM) enhanced skills year resident trainees, as well as CCFP(EM) residency-trained and certified physicians with less than 1 year of emergency department work experience are eligible to apply for a 1-year Locum, which will allow for eligibility in the following year’s Associate Hiring Cycle.

Running in a parallel timeline with the Associate Hiring Cycle, the Locum Hiring Cycle also provides an opportunity for emergency physicians interested in Calgary the chance to experience work in the zone without the need for a long-term commitment.

The Locum Hiring Cycle timeline of dates and submission requirements are the same as the Associate Hiring Cycle listed above. Please indicate your application is for the Locum Hiring Cycle when submitting by email to Scott Banks and Lilian Prudencio.

Note: By Medical Affairs policy, Locums cannot be extended beyond 1 year. If a Locum hire is interested in long-term employment in the Calgary DEM, they must apply to the Associate Hiring Cycle during their Locum year.
