Immunology

Our Section provides consultation services to children of southern Alberta, Saskatchewan, and parts of neighbouring British Columbia with suspected or known primary immunodeficiencies and/or immune dysregulation disorders.

Our outpatient clinics are offered through the hematology clinic area on the main floor of the Alberta Children’s Hospital.  We offer 24/7 Inpatient and Emergency Outpatient Consultation and Admitting Services for children with Hematologic and/or Immunologic disease, and also offer the following ambulatory clinics:

  • General Hematology Clinics
  • Pediatric Bleeding Disorders Clinic
  • Thrombosis Clinic
  • Hemoglobinopathy Clinic
  • Outreach Services
    • Pediatric Bleeding Disorders Clinic – Lethbridge and Medicine Hat
  • Immunology Clinic
  • Allergy Clinic (limited)

Please note, the Division is unable to offer any significant generalized Allergy Services at this time. The Department of Pediatrics continues work actively to recruit physician services in this area.  Allergy Services are currently limited to: diffuse cutaneous mastocytosis with or without the suspicion of systemic mastocytosis, hereditary or unexplained angioedema, idiopathic anaphylaxis (if a community allergist considers that further evaluation is needed), suspicion of DRESS syndrome, and eosinophilic diseases (if a referral to us is thought necessary by other specialties evaluating the patient, such as Gastroenterology, Dermatology, or Hematology).

We work closely with colleagues in the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Program to be able to offer Stem Cell Transplant to selected hematology and immunology patients.

A physician Referral is required for all Clinics. Please contact your physician or family doctor.

Participation in numerous local, national and international clinical trials is ongoing.
