CARE Awards

The CARE awards are intended to recognize sustained excellence of contributions in the four core areas that reflect the mission and vision of our Department: Clinical Service, Advocacy and Leadership, Research, and Education.

The recipients of this award have demonstrated excellent achievements in direct clinical care, going over and above in their contributions to patient care provision (For example: development of a clinical program for a vulnerable group or significantly affecting quality of life for a patient population through advancements in care delivery). This award recognizes not only clinical competence, but also the ability to deliver care with great commitment and compassion. Recipients of this award demonstrate high levels of professionalism in dealing with patients, families, colleagues, support staff and community services. 

  1. Previous recipients

The recipients of this award have demonstrated outstanding achievements in clinical and/or non-clinical service. These individuals have displayed advocacy in an individual practice or team, or in a unit, section or department-wide activity. This award may recognize a single, highly significant achievement or multiple notable achievements.

The recipients of this award have demonstrated excellent achievements in the realm of individual and/or collaborative investigation. Their accomplishments may be demonstrated in any of the four CIHR pillars of research (basic, clinical, health services, or population health), knowledge transfer, quality improvement, or education. This award may recognize success with high profile publications, grant funding, and/or demonstrated success in knowledge transfer or evidence-informed quality improvement. 

  1. Previous recipients

The recipients of this award have demonstrated exceptional achievements in the realm of education in one or more of UME, PGME, CME, undergraduate and graduate science education. The award recognizes excellence in teaching and supervision and the delivery of educational programs, as well as excellence in the development, evaluation and leadership of existing and/or new educational teaching services and programs.

Additional Awards & Recognition

This award was created to recognize and honour members who have provided 25+ years (since initial university faculty appointment, regardless of institution or location) of exemplary service. This award is intended to recognize both clinical and non-clinical faculty members demonstrating significant and impactful contributions to the community at large and/or the medical profession as a whole. The recipients of this award (at the time) are current members of the Department of Pediatrics. All late-career members of the Department were considered for this award.

This award recognizes members of the Department of Pediatrics who are inspiring leaders and role models, and who has demonstrated a significant positive influence on the lives of others and the world around them.

This award celebrates the exceptional contributions and potential of early career members (10 years or less since faculty appointment) in the Department of Pediatrics, with outstanding contributions in any of the four CARE pillars.
