Research

The largest research platform in our section is EQuIS, which stands for Efficiency, Quality, Innovation, and Safety. Dr. Mary Brindle is the director and founder and oversees strategic planning activities. She has developed an incredible research team that, even in its earliest stages, is showing significant promise. The major support for EQuIS comes from The Brian and Brenda MacNeill Chair in Pediatric surgery, funded through the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation and administered by the University of Calgary.

The vision of EQuIS is to define the future of healthcare for surgical pediatric patients, and its mission is to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of surgical care provided to children locally, nationally, and internationally.  EQuIS supports projects that bring innovations to pre- and perioperative health systems, including improving operating room (OR) access, efficiency of patient flow and resource use, developing teaching strategies and education technology in the OR to enhance patient safety, and improving the patient and family experience. EQuIS Research is based at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It represents a diverse group of clinical researchers partnered with local and national organizations dedicated to healthcare quality improvement. For more information, please visit EQuIS Research.

Research in our section does not stop with EQuIS, and our members are involved in various other research projects. The projects fall under the major pillars of the Office of Surgical Research: Basic Science, Health Systems, Clinical, and Education.
