Plastic Surgery Research and Quality Improvement Initiatives
Dr. Claire Temple-Oberle serves as the Research Director for the Section of Plastic Surgery.
A variety of clinical databases have been established to review the delivery of care to specific subsets of plastic surgery patients, including:
- children with vascular birthmarks
- head and neck cancer patients (in collaboration with ENT)
- adult and pediatric burn patients
- patients who have reconstruction after surgery for breast cancer.
Dr. Duncan Nickerson has developed and implemented a successful Plastic Surgery Trauma Service model at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC), which has resulted in greater efficiency in the treatment of traumatic injuries by plastic surgery at FMC.
A pediatric plastic surgery central intake pathway for doctors referring children with urgent and emergent plastic conditions has been established at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
