Title: Physicians Supporting Physicians: The Fundamentals

Description: The presenter will share the evidence behind physician-to-physician peer support and highlight how a peer support team can be a powerful physician wellness resource for our department members. The DEM Peer Support Team is an evidence-based system level intervention to support physician wellness.

Formally trained peer supporters provide an empathetic ear, screen for red flags for harm and guide physicians seeking help to existing resources.

Reach out to our Peer Support Team’s trained peer supporters for both work-related and personal life matters – the science shows that sharing with a colleague helps relieve distress and rumination

Title: Eye Spy with my Ultrasound: Ocular PoCUS for Detection of Raised Intracranial Pressure

Description: PoCUS is an important tool for emergency medicine physicians. This presentation will review how to perform Ocular PoCUS and its indications. We will also discuss ultrasound findings of raised intracranial pressure and potential applications in the emergency department.

Title: Damage Control Interventions in Prehospital Trauma Care

Description: We will review the latest evidence and current guidelines for hemostatic interventions performed in prehospital trauma care including application of pelvic binders, hemostatic dressings, tourniquets, as well as prehospital REBOA and thoracotomy. The main theme of the presentation is the importance of time -- focusing on expediting transfer to a tertiary center for definitive surgical care and only performing interventions that are absolutely required or do not prolong time to transfer.
