The Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Fellowship Program is committed to training highly qualified, experienced, and caring specialists in providing expert care to children presenting with diverse conditions and severities of medical, surgical, traumatic, and psychiatric concerns. The ACH Emergency Department (ED) sees close to 77,000 visits each year, making it one of the busiest pediatric EDs in Canada. This allows our trainees to get ample exposure to and experience in caring for all manner of illnesses and injuries, with increasing levels of responsibility including leading the resuscitation team.
The two year fellowship program provides training and experience in clinical care, research and scholarly projects, teaching, and administrative duties. We have a large PEM faculty, consisting of almost 50 members from diverse backgrounds, including primary training in the Royal College Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine programs. Half of our faculty has completed a PEM fellowship program. In addition to provision of excellent clinical care, faculty have diverse interests in research, education, transport, toxicology, and administration. Our faculty are highly committed to the education and mentorship of our PEM fellows, in a supportive and collegial atmosphere.
