Competence by Design

Competence by Design (CBD) is a competency-based method of education initiated by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons to improve medical specialist training in Canada.  This evidence-based approach ensures medical graduates have the competencies needed for the demands and expectations of current day medical practice while providing the best care possible.

The CBD roll out in the Department of Surgery began in 2017, and the Royal College anticipates that all programs will be on-boarded to CBD by 2024.

For more information about CBD, please visit the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Visit the Cumming School of Medicine for more information on the CBD rollout within UCalgary.
