Faculty Research

Over the past 50 years, Calgary Orthopaedics has become internationally recognized for our success in musculoskeletal research.

Numerous faculty members have achieved national and international funding support and award recognition for diverse clinical, health services, translational, and basic science research. Research programs include clinical and advanced imaging research following trauma and soft tissue injury, osteoarthritis clinical and basic science research, translational musculoskeletal oncology and spine research, and many others.

We are renowned for multidisciplinary and collaborative research, supported by the state-of-the-art imaging and laboratory resources in the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health, data analytics support from the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute, the Charbonneau Cancer Research Institute, and the Alberta Health Services Bone and Joint Strategic Clinical Network.

Numerous faculty members supervise resident and fellow research projects, and several faculty members supervise MSc and PhD graduate students through the Medical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, and Community Health Sciences programs.

The Research Portfolio Committee has a mandate to support research infrastructure, facilitate collaborative research, and to create opportunities for trainees, emerging early career, and established investigators in all aspects of musculoskeletal research.
