Message from the Section Chief
Orthopaedic Surgery is a section within the Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone, and the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine.
Orthopaedic Surgical care is delivered at four adult hospitals within Calgary, including Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed Centre, Rockyview General Hospital, and the South Health Campus. Specialized paediatric orthopaedic care is delivered at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Our orthopaedic faculty consists of more than 66 surgeons who are members of the Department of Surgery, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, and practice at these hospitals. All sites are engaged in the education of orthopaedic trainees, which includes medical students, residents, and fellows.
The majority of our faculty members and trainees are involved in orthopaedic research, which is an important pillar in our academic mission. These research activities include laboratory/basic science, clinical, and health service delivery/policy. Our research partners include the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute, McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health, and Bone and Joint Health Strategic Clinical Network.
Members of the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery provide key leadership roles for Alberta Health Services, University of Calgary, Bone and Joint Health Strategic Clinical Network, and regional, provincial, and national Orthopaedic Associations and Professional Societies.
Through world-class surgical care delivery, education, research, and leadership endeavours, our orthopaedic surgeons are making important contributions and improving the lives of Albertans and Canadians.
