3rd Annual Critical Care Medicine Research Day

About the Event

The Department of Critical Care Medicine, University of Calgary is excited to be hosting it's 3rd Annual Critical Care Medicine Research Day. Building on the success of the previous two years, we have planned a day full of opportunities to hear about the local research taking place in critical care medicine and connect with trainees, researchers and healthcare providers in related fields. This year's research day will take place Wednesday, May 27, 2020. 

Pillars of Research

The Critical Care Medicine Research Day will focus on pediatric and adult research and span five pillars of health research: 

Pillar 1

Biomedical Research

"Research with the goal of understanding normal and abnormal human functioning at the molecular, cellular, organ system, and whole body levels, including development of tools and techniques to be applied for this purpose"

Pillar 2

Clinical Research

"Research with the goal of improving the diagnosis and treatment (including rehabilitation and palliation) of disease and injury, and improving the health and quality of life of individuals as they pass through normal life stages"

Pillar 3

Health Services Research

"Research with the goal of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of health professionals and the health care system through changes to practice and policy"

Pillar 4

Social, Cultural, Environmental, and Population Health Research

"Research with the goal of improving the health of the population, or of defined sub-populations, through a better understanding of the ways in which social, cultural, environmental, occupational and economic factors determine health status"

Pillar 5

Medical Education Research 

"Research with the goal of evaluating and improving the transfer and acquisition of knowledge or skills to learners"

Dr. Warren L. Lee

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Warren L. Lee

Dr. Lee is a Scientist at the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science and a Staff Physician in the department of Critical Care Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital. He is also an Associate Professor in the department of Medicine/Respirology at the University of Toronto and holds cross-appointments in Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology.

He is a full Member of the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) at the University of Toronto and an associate member of the Yeates School of Graduate Studies at Ryerson University.

Dr. Lee is a member of the Editorial Boards of the American Journal of Physiology – Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology and Nature Scientific Reports.

He holds the Canada Research Chair in Mechanisms of Endothelial Permeability (Tier II).
