Faculty External Funding

General Process for Submitting External Grants

  1. All grant applications (includes Letters of Intent) leaving the University of Calgary to an external funding agency are required to be reviewed and approved by the institution (Research Services Office (RSO), Vice-President Research) prior to submission.
  2. RSO, as the institutional authority for external grants, reviews all applications for institutional commitment and risk before submission to the funding agency.  For that reason they have a Hard Internal Deadline of two business days at noon in advance of an agency deadline to receive the grant.  To facilitate the submission process, RSO provides an electronic delivery site that can be accessed here: Electronic Submission Tool.  RSO can be reached at rsogrants@ucalgary.ca
  3. Under University policy, you are required to complete a Research Funding Application Approvals (RFAA) form for every external grant application leaving the university.  This RFAA must accompany the application when it is submitted to RSO, as per step 2 above. The RFAA needs to be filled out and signed by the PI, by the Department Head and Associate Dean (Research Grants).  After the Department Head signs send the form to the Office of the Associate Dean Research (OADR)  (medgrant@ucalgary.ca).  OADR staff will ensure the form is forwarded to RSO, on your behalf.

If you have any questions or would like further information on these or any other resources related to research please contact Jenna Slobozian, Research Facilitator (j.slobozian@ucalgary.ca or 403.210.7299).
