New Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education
Dr. Lisa Welikovitch appointed
The Cumming School of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Lisa Welikovitch as the new Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education, effective July 1, 2017. Dr. Welikovitch will be replacing Dr. Maureen Topps who has been appointed the new Senior Associate Dean, Education.
Dr. Welikovitch joined the Cumming School of Medicine in 1998. She is an associate professor in the Department of Medicine and a member of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta. Dr. Welikovitch received her undergraduate degree at McGill University and her medical degree at McMaster University. She then completed training in internal medicine at the University of Toronto, and specialty training in cardiology at Queen’s University. This was followed by a two-year fellowship in echocardiography at the Toronto Hospital before becoming a member of Queen’s University’s Division of Cardiology (1992-1998).
Dr. Welikovitch relocated to Calgary in 1998 and served for several years as course chair for Course 3 (Cardiorespiratory) in the Undergraduate Medical Education curriculum. She then spent ten years as program director for the adult cardiology residency training program. Dr. Welikovitch has been a member of the Royal College Examination Board since 2003 and has been the chair of the board for the past five years. She currently serves on both the Specialty Committee and the Nucleus Committee for Cardiology at the Royal College.
In 2015, Dr. Welikovitch was appointed to the position of accreditation chair within the Postgraduate Medical Education program. She has served as an external surveyor and was recently appointed to the Royal College Residency Accreditation Committee. Dr. Welikovitch is the recipient of several teaching awards including the Canadian Association for Medical Education Award of Merit.
