Visiting Elective: Residents Training in Canada

Eligibility

To be eligible for an elective in Family Medicine through the University of Calgary:

> You must be enrolled in an accredited Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) program at another Canadian university.

How to Apply

Contact the Elective Scheduler at the Family Medicine Residency Program:

> Submit your placement request via Visiting Residents Elective Request Form –  see link below and click on Fill out form including your preferred dates and preceptor (if known).

> Placements must be a minimum of two weeks and a maximum of four weeks.

> Requests should be submitted no later than 8 weeks before the elective start date.

If you are a University of Alberta Resident

If you are interested in a rural Southern Alberta elective:

For Electives in Whitehorse, Yukon

If you are requesting a placement in Whitehorse:

Once Your Placement Is Confirmed

When you receive confirmation of your elective placement, you must submit the following documents to the Family Medicine Residency Program’s Elective Scheduler (fmelect@ucalgary.ca):

> Your current CV

> A Letter of Support from your home program

Once you have receive confirmation

Once you have receive confirmation that the Letter of Support has been submitted to the University of Calgary's PGME office contact the:

> College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) to get listed on the Provisional Register.

> Obtain CMPA liability coverage for the duration of your elective
