Why Lethbridge? FAQ with a current resident

Lethbridge is an excellent sized city to do residency in. The hospital is large enough to see complex and interesting cases while also small enough to know the majority of the physicians within a few months. The hospital is invested and interested in ensuring you have a positive and fulfilling residency experience and the staff generally go above and beyond to help you achieve this. Lethbridge also has a significant indigenous patient population and is working very hard to work together with First Nations to improve healthcare and health outcomes.

From a non-medical stand point, Lethbridge is a beautiful prairie city with amazing Coulees, a beautiful river valley, large treed streets and all the amenities of a large center. Another incredible part of living in Lethbridge is its accessibility to the mountains. Lethbridge is a mere 1 hour to the Rockies and demonstrates some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. It is also only 1 hour to Montana and Glacier National Park. Skiing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, hunting, climbing,  and riding just out your doorstep.

Numerous Life Saving Courses – Nightmares Bootcamp, NRP, ACORN, PALS, ATLS, POCUS, ALARM etc

Incredible rural learning opportunities. My two rural placements are Pincher Creek and Whitehorse.

Yes. You will see everything in Lethbridge other than Interventional cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Neuro Surgery.

Yes, very well balanced! Over the first 3 months of residency I absolutely have less call and commitments compared to medical school.
