Overview

The Alpine Medical Clinic is a new addition to the rural sites for the Family Medicine Program. Alpine Medical Clinic is a full-scope family medicine clinic with certain physicians (performing low risk deliveries at the Canmore General Hospital (~60/year). The clinic is open 7 days a week and provide booked as well as walk-in appointments which during peak tourism season means the clinic sees a high volume of patients. During the winter months, the clinic sees many different MSK injuries and cast fractures that do not require sedation for reduction. Furthermore, the clinic does administer IV fluids and antibiotics for infections, and perform multiple procedures not requiring general anaesthesia. This full-scope developed to provide an economical alternative to foreign travellers that require care but hope to avoid the cost of an ER visit.  The clinic has four physicians that work in the clinic with locums intermittently. The clinic has four exam rooms, a treatment room, and a nursing station. The clinic uses some bedside ultrasound for MSK related issues and injections, as well as some obstetrical assessments as well as dating for termination of pregnancy. The clinics physicians have hospital privileges and work as hospitalist for admitted non-surgical patients. The physicians are on call for their own patients and have call schedule for attached patients that changes weekly.  The clinic admits and manages a roster of patients in the long term care facility connected to the hospital.
