Clinical, Adjunct, Adjunct/Research Promotion
Faculty are welcome to apply for promotion at any time during the year, noting that the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) Promotions Committee meets only once per year (usually in the Spring, subject to change) at which time all applications are reviewed.
Timelines - The Department of Family Medicine’s internal deadline for applications for the 2024-2025 cycle is Friday January 31, 2025.

By email to Dr. Sonya Lee (via mgutkin@ucalgary.ca), a letter that outlines your medical training and work history, the year you were appointed to the University, and your contributions to teaching, administration and/or leadership, and the community-at-large. This is also an opportunity to highlight any scholarly/research work you are involved in or have accomplished.
Though not mandatory, the DFM encourages applicants to use the UCalgary CV template.

You may download and complete this checklist, if helpful for you in preparing you application.
Please note: If you were appointed as Clinical Lecturer in the last 3-4 years and are applying for promotion to Clinical Assistant Professor, this may be early but your application will be reviewed. We will advise if you are able to move forward through the process this year or if we would suggest waiting another year to ensure you meet the criteria and are successful in the process.

We also ask that you complete this checklist based on the promotion criteria. It helps us to more easily review the accomplishments, activities and highlights of those interested in promotion; subsequently it aids in drafting a letter of recommendation to the Dean.

Names, emails and addresses of 3 external referees (6 total – 3 will be recommended by the Department Head); provide brief background comments about each referee, including any relationship to you.
List of your five (5) best publications.
A separate list of your 5 best publications, including a brief overview of the importance of each publication and, in multi-authored publications, a definition of your role in the work.
Please note: As part of the DFM’s process, Dr. Lee meets (virtually) with those applying for the rank of Clinical Professor. We’ll reach out to schedule a meeting after your documentation is received and reviewed.
