Indigenous Health Office

The Cumming School of Medicine’s (CSM) Indigenous Health Office (IHO), formerly known as the Indigenous Health Program, advances medical excellence by addressing the systemic underrepresentation of Indigenous peoples and knowledges in medicine.  The office focuses on culturally appropriate medical education, research and community engagement that strengthens the pathways for Indigenous learners and future leaders in health excellence.

The IHO aims to decolonize and uplift Indigenous health through education, community engagement, student support, and research initiatives. It supports all Indigenous learners including medical school applicants, undergraduate medical students, Bachelor of Health Sciences and Bachelor of Community Rehabilitation students, residents, graduate students, staff and faculty, as well as all non-Indigenous CSM community members.  The office engages with all CSM units and departments to increase awarenesses about Indigenous health and its importance for everyone.
