Cumming School of Medicine recognizes excellence in teaching and research

Annual Celebration of Excellence honours recipients of prestigious awards

The Cumming School of Medicine’s Awards and Recognition Committee hosted the 11th annual Celebration of Excellence at Foothills Campus on Feb. 27. Each year, the event celebrates achievements in teaching and research ranging from early career awards and community honours, to Canadian Academy of Health Sciences Fellowships and Orders of Canada. This year’s event also celebrated a Rhodes Scholarship. More than 200 faculty members, students and staff attended this year’s event.

The Awards and Recognition Committee was established in 2008 by Dr. Tom Feasby, former dean of medicine. The committee has the principal mandate of identifying and co-ordinating the nomination of individuals for external awards, and, of course celebrating their success. “I’m very proud to serve as chair of the awards and recognition committee and would encourage my colleagues — as I do every year — to keep those nominations coming,” says Dr. Wee Yong, PhD. “There is no shortage of great work happening at the Cumming School of Medicine and I look forward to celebrating the excellence in our faculty for years to come.”
