The Cumming School of Medicine mourns the passing of Dr. Lee Anne Tibbles, MD, who passed away Oct. 9, 2023 at the age of 62.

A clinician scientist, transplant nephrologist and associate professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in UCalgary’s Faculty of Medicine, now the Cumming School of Medicine, she joined the university in 1999.

Lee Anne was instrumental in developing the Southern Alberta Transplant Program (ALTRA) and served as the medical director of ALTRA for many years. She was a strong advocate for research in solid organ transplantation. Lee Anne supervised, supported and mentored numerous graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, clinical residents and clinical fellows. She also served as president of the Canadian Society of Transplantation and has contributed to the development of a national transplant strategy.

She was a member of the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases and the Libin Cardiovascular Institute and is remembered by colleagues for her unfailing advocacy to improve patient care and advance care delivery. Lee Anne was so many things to so many people — a proud mother, a devoted doctor, a trusting friend and a determined changemaker, to name a few.

A memorial service for Lee Anne will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 19, 2023, at Eden Brook Funeral Home and Cemetery in Calgary.

Lee Anne’s family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honour to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
