Nominations now open for 2019 Sustainability Awards

Do you know someone who’s doing outstanding sustainability work at the University of Calgary? Nominate students, faculty or staff for the 2019 UCalgary Sustainability Awards. Nominations are open until midnight, Jan. 20. Self-nominations are encouraged.
Seven award categories recognize and celebrate students, faculty and staff for furthering UCalgary’s commitment to sustainability excellence and contributing to the goals of our Institutional Sustainability Strategy.
The award categories for 2019 are:
- Undergraduate Student Sustainability Award
- Graduate Student Sustainability Award
- Student Club Sustainability Award
- Staff Sustainability Award
- Faculty Sustainability Research Award
- Sustainability Teaching Award
- Experiential Learning Project in Sustainability Award
Nominees’ projects or initiatives are evaluated on the basis of three criteria: impact, creativity and collaboration. The awards will be presented at the annual Sustainability Awards celebration event on March 19, 2019.
2018 award recipients included:
- Student Club Leadership in Sustainability – University of Calgary Fashion Network (UCFN)
- Undergraduate Student Leadership in Sustainability – Jeenan Kaiser: ONE UCalgary
- Graduate Student Leadership in Sustainability – Patrick Duke: Students on Sustainability
- Graduate Student Leadership in Sustainability – Dylan McLernon: Creating Sustainable Habitats for Bees
- Staff Leadership in Sustainability – Briana Loughlin and Isabelle Couture: PlasticFree YYC
- Faculty Leadership in Sustainability Education and Research – Dr. Mishka Lysack (Faculty of Social Work)
- Campus as a Learning Laboratory Project Award – Haskayne Waste Audit Initiative
- Community as a Learning Partner Project Award – Solar Village of the Future: Sustainable District “Solar Hub” in Burkina Faso
