During the past year, DLRI has begun a series of webinars intended to help our rural physicians better cope with the new world of virtual medicine.

Adolescent Mental Health in the Time of Covid-19

This was an exciting collaboration between the Department of Distributed Learning & Rural Initiatives at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary and McMaster University - Michael G. DeGroote, School of Medicine WRC. The objectives of this webinar were: 1. Identify the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on adolescent mental health. 2. Develop approaches for interacting with adolescent patients on virtual platforms. 3. Investigate the future state of adolescent mental health during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Virtual Exam and the Power of Touch in the Virtual World

We want to help to ensure that you can maintain a high level of patient care and an enriched learning experience through your use of the virtual physical exam and how physical touch can continue to find a place in this context. During this session, we review skin and joint exams, how to observe affect and when to make the call that an in-person exam is required.

Working with Learners In Your Virtual Practice

This session was hosted by the Cumming School of Medicine's Continuing Medical Education, Office of Faculty Development and Distributed Learning & Rural Initiatives. This webinar will assist preceptors in facilitating their learners through virtual clinics. 

 

The session includes a presentation on learning in virtual clinics followed by a general Q&A period. The session was moderated by Dr. Aaron Johnston - Associate Dean, DLRI- and Dr. Kelly Burak - Associate Dean, CME at the Cumming School of Medicine. This webinar also welcomed special guest experts from the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Calgary, Dr. Emmanuel Gye and Dr. Sanjeev Bhatla.
