Greetings Potoos from a proud Poodle! My only advice to you is that self-care, socializing, sleep and exercise are just as important as studying. Also, don't ever hesitate to ask for help if you need it - everyone here at this school wants you to succeed! I look forward to welcoming all of you as colleagues in 2027!

Welcome to the menagerie. You will always be proud of your Calgary training. Go to the mountains whenever you can, it will offset your hours inside.

Life travels fast and even faster as a doctor. Enjoy the ride. Advice: don't chase $$$, take 1 day a week off, get home as early as possible to support family. Always be on time, keep your sigo happy, delegate as much as possible and automate everything from the beginning. Hire professionals for your personal life. Innovate and do not stagnate. Congrats and enjoy your highly privileged station in life!! - M Iizuka (kinkajous).

Congratulations to the Potoos. I'm from the class of "81"-the lampreys. We were named this because our "nerds" would wear their lab coats over to McDonalds to be recognized as "docs". Get it? Lampreys "suck!"
This is a special journey to a fabulous career. You will change and improve peoples lives, which few get to do. Just remember, this job is about the patient-not you.
Good luck.

Congratulations and welcome!  Some things you learn now will no longer be how you treat patients in ten years but as long as you keep learning, adapting, and staying connected to your medical community, you will keep current on the latest medical knowledge. I highly recommend using UpToDate.com (subscription often paid for by UofC). Also, don't let charting/documenting become your life.  I wish someone taught me this from the very beginning. Good luck!!

Welcome to the best job on earth. There will be ups and downs for sure but by the time you retire, you will be ecstatic to have been privileged to serve.
Enjoy your new colleagues, you will have many lasting friendships among them.

Welcome Potoos!
Your time at U of C in the Faculty of Medicine will demand hard work, dedication and support for your classmates. Most of all, remember diseases that you study impact the patient and the entire family. Pebble in the pond effect.

Welcome to medicine and to the menagerie! Buckle up and enjoy the ride - it goes by faster than you think! Learning medicine is important, but don't forget to have fun. Support each other and help each other - it's the only way to get through with your sanity intact! You will find menagerie members of all vintages all over the country when you go on elective in 3rd year - be sure to say hi!
