The Students’ Union (SU) Campus Food Bank at the University of Calgary is running a month-long food drive. Through October, students are reaching out to the community to help re-stock the shelves for the fall and winter months.

The SU Campus Food Bank, administered through SU Volunteer Services, provides a seven-day emergency food relief service to the campus community. This relief is provided through nutritionally sound hampers in accordance with the Canada Food Guide.

“We are proud to continue to offer our emergency hampers, particularly as students cope with so many other challenges,” says Assad Ali Bik, SU vice-president student life. “We know that many students have struggled to find part-time work and summer jobs throughout the pandemic, and that can mean difficult choices when it comes to paying tuition, rent, and budgeting for food.”

Non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at the Information Centre in MacEwan Student Centre, and larger donations may be arranged by appointment.

A GoFundMe page has also been created for monetary donations.

The SU Campus Food Bank has been independently operated by the Students’ Union for more than 27 years and provides emergency, seven-day food hampers to students and other members of the campus community.
