Biography

Dr. Nancy J. Marlett is the Director of Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies at the University of Calgary and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education. Her doctoral work was in the interdisciplinary field on partnership research and empowerment in free countries. She has been active in a number of consumer led initiatives including the Independent Living Movement, self-help groups, service brokerage, community planning and Consumer Empowerment in Health. For twelve years, she had her own consulting firm related to program design, evaluation, and staff training in human services.

She has also been involved in de-institutionalization as the Director of an institution, a consultant on manpower redeployment, the Director of a national computer telecommunications network and the National Center for Empowerment of Persons with Disabling Conditions. Her research and publications have looked at the effects that systems, assessment treatment methods, and professional roles have on the lives of persons with disabling conditions. Dr. Marlett continues to research computer telecommunications and adult education.
