Construction Project Notices

August 22, 2018

Alberta Health Services is nearing the completion of the new Central Parkade at Foothills Medical Centre (FMC). FMC site administration is working closely with the University of Calgary to determine the best approach to parking assignments for UCalgary employees.

Given the proximity to the Foothills campus, all current UCalgary employees with permits to park offsite during construction will be assigned to North/Lot 6.

Please note:
• At this time, a specific date for the parking changes to occur is not yet known. All schedules will coincide with the progress of parkade construction, which is expected to be complete sometime in the fall. Employees will be re-permitted for Lot 6 at that time.
• UCalgary and AHS employees with the proper permits will be able to park in any Lot 6 stall on levels 2 through 6 on a first come/first serve basis. There will be only a small amount of visitor/patient parking. (There is currently capacity to accommodate future new employees in Lot 6.)
• The cost of Lot 6 parking will be $119/month including GST.
• Upon completion of the Central Parkade, any staff wishing to continue parking offsite are asked to contact UCalgary Parking and Transportation to learn about their options.

Thank you for your patience. Information on timelines and distribution of permits will be shared as it becomes available.

The installation of duct banks at the Calgary Cancer Centre will impact vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow on Hospital Drive starting Aug. 22. More.

The work to erect four large tower cranes and construction for some essential services is progressing. Thank you for your patience with lane closures and detours.

A traffic mitigation plan developed between PCL Construction, the City of Calgary, Calgary Police Services (CPS), Alberta Health Services (AHS), the University of Calgary and Alberta Infrastructure (AI) aims to minimize peak-time disruption for staff, physicians, patients and visitors, and maintain normal service for transit and emergency medical services. Updates on the timeline for the work and the type of impact are provided below.

Traffic Mitigation Plan Highlights
• Scheduling the dates of work on weekends as much as possible
• Scheduling the work so as to have minimal overlap between the different dates involved for different parts of the installations
• CPS at the 29th St NW intersection and West Interchange as required
• Flaggers to assist with traffic control and lane closure signage
• A temporary restriction to a right out only (towards 29th St NW) when exiting Lot 8
• Daily meetings between PCL, AHS, University of Calgary and AI to monitor any impact on traffic flow and make adjustments accordingly

All bus routes will remain in effect as usual throughout this entire period.

Scheduled Lane Closures until the end of May
May 8 to May 15 Lanes reduced to one lane in each direction along Hospital Dr. North across the intersection with Heliport Rd. Access to Lot 9 moved temporarily from Hospital Drive to Heliport Rd.
May 16 to May 19 Single southbound right lane closed on 29th St NW (between 16th Ave and Hospital Drive)
May 22 to May 25 Lanes reduced to one lane in each direction along Hospital Dr. North across the intersection with Heliport Rd. Access to Lot 9 moved temporarily from Hospital Drive to Heliport Rd.
May 28 to May 31 Lanes reduced to one lane in each direction along Hospital Dr. North across the intersection with Heliport Rd. Access to Lot 9 moved temporarily from Hospital Drive to Heliport Rd.

Please note that parts of this plan may be subject to change especially with respect to weather. We will provide an update if any significant changes in the plan are required.
