Nicola Adderly MD
Dr. Adderly in from Vancouver where she completed her B.Sc. in Applied Animal Biology at the University of British Columbia. She moved to Calgary to complete her MD degree and for Internal Medicine and Respirology training. She is thrilled to be a part of the Respirology training program. Her academic interests include pulmonary complications of bone marrow transplant and cancer therapies. Outside of medicine, she can be found exploring the Rockies on foot or skis, and enjoying quality time with her senior dog.
Kaity Lalonde MD, MSc
Dr. Lalonde is originally from the West Coast where she completed her undergraduate, graduate and medical training at the University of British Columbia. She relocated to sunny Calgary for Internal Medicine and stayed for her Respirology training. ”I love the diverse practice of Respirology, and I get to work and learn with great people.” When she is not thinking about the lungs, Dr. Lalonde can be found at a spin class, enjoying a tasty treat with a friend, or curled up on the couch with tea and a book.
James Valerand MD, PhD
Dr. Valerand is originally from Ottawa where he completed his Bachelor’s in Health Sciences and a Master’s in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa. He moved to the University of Alberta to complete his PhD in Kinesiology where he studied exercise rehabilitation for cancer patients. The experience of working directly with patients prompted him to move to Calgary for his MD degree and Internal Medicine training at the University of Calgary, before being accepted into the Respiratory Medicine training program. Dr. Valerand is interested in aspects of pulmonary rehabilitation delivery and cardiopulmonary exercise testing.

Dr. Fiona Burns MD
Dr. Dan Bailey MD
Dr. Mustafa Al-Saiedy MD, PhD
Dr. Mustafa Al-Saiedy is a Pulmonary Medicine fellow at the University of Calgary with a multidisciplinary background in molecular biology, nanoscience, and respiratory medicine. He holds a degree in Cellular, Molecular & Microbial Biology with a concentration in Nanoscience, and a PhD in Cardiovascular & Respiratory Sciences. Following his doctoral studies, Mustafa worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a medical science liaison and later pursued a career in medicine.
His research has focused on pulmonary surfactant and lung mechanics, specifically the effects of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) in lung injury and dysfunction, including ARDS, acute lung injury, and cystic fibrosis. He has also contributed to asthma-related research and maintains a strong interest in airway disease and research.
Outside of medicine, Mustafa enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors, trying new cuisines, and refereeing soccer.
